The Academy
The SARASWATI ACADEMY
OF INDIAN DANCE
was established in 1984 by Satish
Shah in London. It endeavours to support and encourage young
dancers to get involved and develop their skills in Indian Folk
Dance.
Their creative repertoire is full of new and innovative dance items
in folk dance and semi-classical styles. Presented in their very
colorful costumes, their fast-moving and refreshing performances
have won them first prizes in competitions throughout the UK. Their
talents are given many opportunities for display at festivals, community
shows and private functions where they are in much demand.

Children are accepted from the age of six and learn the basic body
and rhythmic movements of simple garba and Dandiva Raas in the first
two years. They then go on to study folk dances from the different
regions of India including the foundations of Bharat Natvam dance.
Future plans include the production of dance dramas and new dance
routines for an ever wider public in schools and the community.
The Academy also runs beginners and advanced classes for the following:
Teenagers
Young Mothers' Raas Garba
and Bhangra
Young Boys and Men
Students from the Academy regularly perform at various functions
all over the world and they have also performed in Indian films
as background dancers, pop videos and stage shows with famous Bollywood
personalities. The Academy highlights are listed below.
The Academy is located at 6 Rosens Walk, Edgware, Middlesex, HA8
