His first amateur Rass/Garba dance troupe which he presented
at the Royal Albert Hall at the 'Asian Youth Festival of
dance and Music' won overall first prize for the best item. Invitations
have since flooded in for Satish to choreograph items for various
Indian organization, which have always, been successful in winning
first prizes for their high standards of polished choreography and
colourful costumes which are designed by Satish.
In 1980 he danced the main role of Lord
Rama in the dance drama 'RAMAYAN' followed by appearances
in 'NARSAYIO' and 'BODANO'.
An aspect of dance creation that interests Satish is the research
into different folk styles of India. This work bore fruit in 1982
when he choreographed 18 folk dances of Gujarat and
Rajastan for the Ismali Community. After three
months of training, 62 amateurs led to a successful presentation
in the open air at White City Stadium.
In 1984 Satish Shah founded SARASWATI
ACADEMY OF INDIAN
DANCE in London. It endeavours
to support and encourage young dancers to get involved and develop
their skills in Indian folk, film and semi-classical dance.
Their creative repertoire is subsequently full of new and innovative
dance items in folk, film and semi-classical styles. Presented in
their very colourful and vibrant costumes, their fast-moving and
refreshing performances have won them first prizes in competitions
throughout the UK.
Their talents are given many opportunities for display at festivals,
community shows and private functions where they are in much demand.
